As part of its full commitment to implementing the directives of the Egyptian state and the decisions of the Council of Ministers regarding rationalizing energy consumption and maximizing resource efficiency, Prof. Dr. Atef Alam El-Din, President of East Port Said National University, issued a comprehensive administrative decision to apply a package of mandatory executive measures to rationalize electricity consumption and improve energy efficiency across all university sectors.
The decision covers all educational and service facilities, classrooms, laboratories, and administrative facilities, reflecting the university's direction toward adopting sustainable operational practices aligned with the National Energy Strategy and Egypt Vision 2030.
The University President affirmed that this decision comes in direct response to current global economic challenges and in light of the state's direction toward rationalizing expenditure and maximizing the use of resources. He noted that the university is working to achieve a balanced equation between academic and administrative performance efficiency and the rational use of energy resources, without affecting the quality of the educational process.
He explained that the decision includes several regulatory controls and procedures, most notably:
Full commitment to rationalizing electricity consumption across all university buildings and facilities.
Switching off unnecessary lighting immediately after official working hours, while observing security and safety requirements.
Reducing electrical loads during evening periods while maintaining the operation of vital facilities.
Expanding reliance on natural lighting inside classrooms and laboratories.
Improving the operating efficiency of electrical devices and regulating usage patterns within the various units.
In this context, the University President directed the Secretary-General of the University, the directors of the various departments, and the Engineering Department to prepare and implement an integrated operational plan that includes clear mechanisms for follow-up, periodic monitoring, measuring energy consumption rates, and preparing regular reports to track achieved rationalization rates and evaluate performance.
Prof. Dr. Atef Alam El-Din stressed that compliance with these measures is a national duty and a collective responsibility requiring the combined efforts of all university members. He affirmed that embedding a culture of rational energy consumption is one of the key pillars for achieving sustainable development, supporting the national economy, and ensuring resource sustainability for future generations.
