As part of East Port Said National University’s commitment to strengthening a culture of scientific research and developing students’ academic skills, the Faculty of Medicine held discussions of scientific research projects submitted by fourth-year students in the Public Health and Community Medicine course. The event was held under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Atef Alam El-Din, University President, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sherine El-Kholy, Director of the Medicine and Surgery Program, and under the supervision of Dr. Nesreen Farouk, Lecturer of Public Health and Community Medicine.
The research addressed a range of priority health and community issues, reflecting students’ interest in connecting academic knowledge with community needs. Key topics discussed included:
- Prevalence and risk factors of autism spectrum disorder among preschool children in Port Said Governorate.
- Prevalence of nomophobia, cyberchondria, and smartphone addiction and their relationship with psychological distress among medical students at East Port Said National University.
- Adverse childhood experiences, self-esteem, and psychological distress among university students.
- The impact of social media on career decision-making among medical students and resident physicians in Port Said Governorate.
- Psychological resilience and perceived social support as predictive factors of positive psychological well-being among university students.
- Dietary habits and their relationship with physical fatigue among medical students.
- Awareness of emergency medicine, knowledge of critical cases, and use of emergency departments among university students.
- Assessment of patient safety attitudes and perceptions among medical students.
The discussion committee praised the distinguished scientific standard of the research, its clear methodology, innovative research ideas, and accurate analysis of results, reflecting the growing research abilities of students and their awareness of the importance of scientific research in supporting the healthcare system and developing medical practice.
The committee also commended students’ presentation and discussion skills and their ability to respond to reviewers’ questions, confirming that these research projects represent an honorable model of the academic excellence and seriousness shown by Faculty of Medicine students in preparing scientific research.
These activities come within the strategy of the Faculty of Medicine at East Port Said National University to promote scientific research, encourage students to participate in applied studies that serve society, and prepare qualified medical professionals with the scientific and research skills needed to keep pace with rapid developments in the healthcare sector.
